Poetry Potluck

We had a conversation with Calvin Early, Poetry Potluck Founder, behind Made At The Citadel.  We spoke about partnering to produce and amplify the Poetry Potluck and participating in a tour to historically black landmarks in Miami and beyond. And what started at a table became a collaboration across spaces where we told stories on top of stories.

The Poetry Potluck started in a backyard.  There were just people, poetry, food, and conversation finding each other naturally. Over time, that same energy moved outward, landing in spaces across South Florida that already carried cultural weight. From community parks to places like the Little Haiti Cultural Complex, Dunns Overtown Farm, and most recently, the Spady Cultural Heritage Museum, each gathering became part of something bigger.  Calvin and the Cuzzins have been re-activating environments rooted in Black history and bring them back to life!

What draws people in is always the same. It feels like family. Like a reunion where everybody’s a “cuzzin,”  Food is shared, games are played, and nobody is too far removed from the next conversation. What makes it meaningful is what happens when those environments meet intention. When poetry is spoken in spaces that were built on legacy. When conversation shifts from casual to transformative. The Poetry Potluck is more than an event, it’s a chance to reflect on culture in real time.

Over the past two years, Erace The Hate has been part of that movement.  As partners, we are supporting how the story is told and experienced. From stage production that ensures every voice carries, to capturing photo and video that reflects the truth of the moment, our role has been to help preserve what’s happening.

Through stage production, photography, and film, we’ve contributed over $10,000 in media each year to help bring the Poetry Potluck to life and extend its reach beyond the moment.

That work was made possible through alignment. Enterate Marivi & Sara stepped in not just as a sponsor, but as a partner who believed in the importance quality media, Erace The Hate media in the space. Their support allowed us to show up fully with our team, and our resources into making sure these stories were captured the right way.

What we’ve documented goes beyond performances.  The energy in Overtown feels different than Little Haiti. Delray carries a different kind of history, especially inside a museum dedicated to preserving the stories of the African diaspora. Through our lens, these moments become more than memories, they become a growing archive of how culture lives today.

As the Poetry Potluck continues to move the story keeps expanding. We’re here to make sure every chapter is captured with the peace, love, and the truth it deserves.
